Kenworth T680 Takes a Leap into the Future with New ADAS Features
09-November-2023
Kenworth, a leading manufacturer of commercial trucks, makes New Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features available for Kenworth T680 trucks. These improvements are integral to the Bendix Fusion system, featuring the groundbreaking Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Stop and Auto Go functionalities.
In the scenario where a commercial truck is trailing a leading vehicle while in cruise control, this upgrade empowers the system to engage the brakes, ensuring a secure following distance. If circumstances require, it can even bring the truck to a full stop and maintain it in that position. Once the truck is ready to resume forward movement, it will autonomously accelerate to match the vehicle's preset speed, all without requiring any driver intervention, while still preserving a safe following distance.
This Cruise Control Braking Innovation is designed to significantly enhance the safety and convenience of commercial truck operation.
Should a vehicle veer off the road, the Highway Departure Braking to Zero feature will activate, emitting an audible alert and initiating braking to decrease the vehicle's speed in cases of unintended road departure. Depending on the situation, the system may bring the vehicle to a complete halt until the driver takes control again.
In addition to the aforementioned enhancements, Kenworth said it’s building upon its existing driver assistance system offerings with improved adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), and more.
Kenworth's comprehensive ADAS driver technology suite encompasses collision mitigation, designed to alert the driver to nearby vehicles and objects, allowing for pre-emptive braking action. The suite also includes lane departure warning, which provides continuous monitoring of the truck's position to prevent lane drift, as well as side object detection, which alerts the driver through audible and visual notifications to facilitate safe navigation and lane changes.
While advanced driver assistance technologies serve as invaluable complements to safe driving practices, the ultimate responsibility for the safe operation of the vehicle rests with the driver at all times.
